LOL ok it’s not technically the end of the decade. But he’s not wrong that it’s been ten years since 12/1999, which was also the last time we were looking forward to a shift in the tens digit of the year.

The DJ was wrong, you have 13 more months until the end of the decade. Just like the new millenium didn’t start until 1/1/2001 despite the hoopla on 12/31/1999. So that means you have another year to get things closer to optimal!

In the case of a tea kettle, some are designed so they whistle when the water is boiling. So, while you’re doing (“watching”) other things, you can keep an ear out for it – you’re using a different sense to perceive when you can make your tea. Do you think there could be a way to switch out your proverbial pot for a whistling kettle? Don’t know if that’s particularly helpful, or if I just have tea on the brain, but I wanted to try. I hear you, and I can sort of relate in a way. I don’t know about other retail stores, but the one I work at has a fairly antiquated computer system for the cash registers – I’m talking fixed-width font, no mouse, having to hit “enter” more than necessary, and convoluted ways to go back and fix typos (what do you mean I can’t backspace?!). Even for the computer-savvy of today, this system takes some getting used to – software is so different from what it used to be. I think using such an old-styled system just makes it harder for the newbie sales associate to learn his/her tasks, the rules, the stock, and every other little thing, like where the broom and dustpan are.

Well, it doesn’t actually “beg the question” (that phrase, it does not mean what everyone thinks it means), but yeah, WHY? I think people can become experts and while they can write great papers, they don’t have presentation skills or know how to put one together, and they are wedded to the old technology (“I want paper in my hands while the person is talking, I don’t want to have to get the handouts from the website later!”). I’ve had to get presenters for a conference and I was limited to what my colleagues gave me — “This guy Sam, he’s great, you’ll love him” — only to end up with a sales pitch (despite my firm injunctions not to pitch) or an off-topic presentation, or a lousy presentation.

It could be the job market and the economy in general that’s got people down. I know from direct experience; I just graduated from college this May, and it’s been an enormous challenge to finally grab a job. I have to say, I was getting pretty depressed as more and more potential employers kept not getting back to me. Since I got a job, Autumn’s become a lot more pleasant.
What I did to try to take the edge off feeling depressed was take walks with my parents, spend time with family and friends, and (please don’t laugh too hard) pet my cat. Looking at pictures I’ve taken of my friends and beautiful places I’ve been helped, too.
